Food for Thought

Just like his dad

So Christmas is all over for another year, right? The tree is dismantled and the manger scene is back in its box.

Have you heard the story of the Nativity Play where there was the usual array of little shepherds dressed in dressing gowns and tea towels? One little boy, stuck for words, looked at the baby in the manger and said, ‘He looks just like his dad.’ He’d probably heard some relative say something similar about a new baby.

Well maybe he spoke more truth than he knew.

For that is why the baby came – to be human and show us what God looks like.

If we want to know what the Holy One looks like then we look at the Human One.

But wait, there’s more. As we look at the person the baby became we are called to be like him. And the family trade mark, or brand, is love. People will know we belong to that baby who became a human adult, because of the love we share.

So for me Christmas is all year round. I even select one card each year to stay on my mantel piece to remind me of this. And so as the year continues, may we too see that baby who looked like his dad and may we become like him.

Love one another as I have loved you. John 15:12
